Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug. 12, 2025 – The Jonesboro Airport Commission broke ground Tuesday on a new terminal to replace the facility lost in the 2020 tornado.

Called the Jonesboro Municipal Airport Commercial Terminal Building, the $6 million, 13,300-square-foot terminal will feature expanded passenger amenities, food service, and upgraded TSA accommodations, according to a news release from the City of Jonesboro.

Much of the city’s airport infrastructure, including the previous terminal, was badly damaged during the March 2020 tornado.

“Jonesboro has proven to be a resilient community, rebuilding even stronger. And the new airport terminal is no exception,” said Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver in a news release.

Two Jonesboro firms are providing the design and construction: Cooper-Mixon Architecture and Olympus Construction. The project is estimated to be completed by July 2026.

“This would not be possible without the tremendous support of political leaders and the Economic Development Administration, who made this project a reality through a grant partnership,” Copenhaver said. “We are truly grateful for their commitment to our community’s growth.”

Officials at the groundbreaking said the terminal will be a symbol of momentum for northeast Arkansas.

“The future of air travel in Jonesboro starts right here, right now,” Copenhaver said.
