Jonesboro, AR – (Contributed) – Aug. 15, 2025 – Arkansas State soccer (1-0-0, 0-0-0 SBC) opened the season in thrilling fashion, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (0-1-0, 0-0-0 SLC) in a 2-1 decision on Thursday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex.

The Red Wolves outshot the Islanders 17-14 and doubled their opponents’ shots-on-goal total with eight in the contest. Lu Flores and Rylee Bernard recorded the goals, while Damaris Deschaine tallied three saves.

Bernard broke the scoreless tie at the 50:13 mark, scoring on assists from Sydney Veatch and Kennedy Horn. The lead held strong for 28:32, but a throw-in quickly turned into a goal for the Islanders and tied the match at 1-1.

With 7:15 remaining, Riley Whisenhunt fired a free kick towards the goal before a header from Keelyn Peacock placed the ball in position for Flores, who fired it into the back of the net. A&M-Corpus Christi recorded two shots with one on goal before time expired, but A-State held on for the victory.
